Playing Background
Albert played with Valur, Reykjavik, from the age of 7 until he left Iceland to play professionally in Canada and the US, at the age of 22. Prior to leaving Iceland, Albert’s team won the Icelandic Championship 3 times as well as the League Cup, also 3 times. He represented the Icelandic National Team 7 times, competing against teams from Sweden, Russia, Norway, and Turkey. He also played 8 European Championship games with Valur.
Albert’s playing experience in the North American Soccer League (NASL) included stints in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Buffalo, Denver, and Kansas City. Albert then played 6 years in Sweden, before moving to Germany.
Coaching History
Albert began his coaching career at the age of 18, as Assistant Coach for Valur’s Women’s team, in Reykjavik. The following year, as their Head Coach, the Women’s team won the Icelandic Championship. Albert has coached in Iceland, Sweden, Germany and the US for over 15 seasons, including 4 years as a player/coach in Sweden.
Albert joind Glenview Soccer Club as a coach in January 2004, and accepted the Director of Coaching in April 2006.
Favorite Soccer Events
Albert has experienced some great moments throughout his career, including playing against some of the biggest stars in soccer, such as George Best, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish. One of the most memorable experiences came when he practiced with FC Arsenal in London, for 1 month, at the age of 16.
Personal
Albert speaks Icelandic, Swedish, German and English fluently. He and his wife, Marianne, have five children and live in Niles, IL.
