Training

Director of Training

At Glenview Youth Soccer Club, all team training is carried out under the supervision of the Director of Coaching, Albert Gudmundsson. Albert has played professionally in Canada, the US, and Sweden. He has seven caps for the Icelandic National Team, including games against Sweden, Russia, Norway and Turkey. He also played 8 European Championship games with his Icslandic club, Valur.

Albert began his coaching career at the age of 18, as Assistant Coach for Valur’s Women’s team, in Reykjavik. The following year, as their Head Coach, the Women’s team won the Icelandic Championship. Albert has coached in Iceland, Sweden, Germany and the US for over 15 seasons, including 4 years as a player/coach in Sweden.

See the Coaches & Trainers page for more about Albert.

If you have any questions about tryouts, questions or comments about your child's performance, position on the field or anything else, you can email Albert and he will get back to you in due course.

Team training

All Glenview teams have paid, professional coaches who organize and run the training sessions and coach at the games.  For more information on our training staff, see the Coaches & Trainers page.  Teams also have volunteer assistant coaches and managers, usually the parent of a player on the team.  The assistant coaches are all required to have a coaching license, so they are qualified to step in if the head coach must be absent.

Training sessions run during the regular season, plus about two weeks prior to the start of the season.  During the winter, the club has indoor training at the indoor soccer field at the Lattof YMCA in Des Plaines.  Many teams also play in indoor leagues during the winter.

Coach Training

All Glenview head coaches have coaching licenses obtained through taking clinics and completing testing.  We encourage all volunteer assistant coaches to also obtain a license.  If you help coach a Glenview team and complete the course to obtain a license, the club will reimburse your clinic fees.

For a complete list of available clinics, click here.  To download a registration form, click here.  And, once you have completed the clinic and want to submit your fees for reimbursement, click here.  The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) also conducts excellent training programs.  Information on their programs is available here

Risk Management Disclosure Forms

The Illinois Youth Soccer Association requires all clubs to comply with its risk-management policies, including conducting background checks on adults who are involved with children of the club.  In order to comply, the club periodically requires the coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, and board members to complete the IYSA Risk Management Disclosure Form.
